Week 3 Blog Post : My Blue Heaven

 My Blue Heaven gave me so many mixed emotions while listening to it.  For some reason the melody was bringing me back to my memories of the old Disney Princess films.  But when it talks about his blue heaven you can tell he's talking about his family and how much they truly mean to him.  The love that he has for his family, makes his entire world, he even sings so in the song, yet he also states that any love can make the world go round in a way.  What makes our world go round?  Mine is my family and friends, as well as sports and music.  The way he talks about how his kid was brought into this world, you can tell the only emotions he is feeling are love and happiness.  Knowing how much you mean to someone can turn your life upside down, for better or for worse.  Sometimes we don't want people in our life but we have no idea what they are going through, we just need to give them love, because it is truly what makes the world go round.  The melody that happens in the background has a very calming tone to it, listening to it the very first time somehow brightened my day and the lyrics hadn't even been sung yet.  When I listen to a new song it takes me about 15 seconds to decide if I like a song or not, I think the melody and instruments used in a song can make or break it for someone.  My Blue Heaven by Gene Austin caught my interest so fast, and it did not dissapoint.

    I really like how you pointed out that he was talking about the love he has for his family and how much they truly mean to him. I would also agree that my family and friends are what "make my world go round". The whistling noise in the background was very calming and I would also agree that it gave off Disney vibes. The whistling in particular was very similar to Cinderella in my opinion.

    Spot on with the old Disney princess vibes! I think it's pretty crazy how just the instrumentals of this piece can immediately bring comparisons like that to mind, yet when listening to the lyrics, it's really more about love of family and life than the typical love involved in a Disney princess film. I'm glad your post got me to listen to the song a little more and really take it in. Great job!

    I honestly had to laugh beginning of this post cause I can totally see what you mean by it gives you memories of the Disney princess films! It was spot on to me! I love your thoughts in the song as well as the music. Personally I don’t have as much appreciation to this song and type of music just cause I guess I don’t see any probably because of my taste in music but it’s cool to see somone like you that sees the interest and value in music that I don’t. I actually love seeing peoples insight on things especially when it different then mine. Great blog and love the review!

    I agree that the song does make me connect to childhood Disney movies. You can hear his emotion in his voice and when singers can do this, it makes the music so much more personal. Anyone could hear this and tell that the people he loves are super important to him. The instrument arrangement in this song along with the whistling are very nostalgic.

Week 7 : The Beach Boys

 Can't believe this is week 7, only a couple more weeks left!!  Anyway this week I chose one of the many amazing songs by the one and only BEACH BOYS!  The first time I ever heard The Beach Boys was on a CD my dad gave me (along with lots of other old bands and artists I absolutely adore) when my parents gave me a CD player for a birthday when I was younger.  The Beach Boys bring back a lot of great memories for me, and the song I chose this week was Fun, Fun, Fun.  Right off the bat you get summer vibes in my opinion, no other song gives off this kind of nostalgic feeling of being under the song all day.  The song talks about how this girl isn't gonna stop having fun with her life no matter what her dad says, she is just living her best life.  The melody and tune is so upbeat and lively, and the background singers add even more serenity to the song itself.  Listening to this song you can picture all of the fun times these people have just writing...

Week 5 Blog Post : Frank Sinatra

 Nancy (With the Laughing Face) by Frank Sinatra reminds so much of an older love song, which is exactly what it is in my opinion.  He repeatedly brings up this special person, and how much he can't possibly survive without her.  Bringing up the emotions of the kisses they share, how her 'laughing face' can brighten up any day, changing winter into summer.  He calls her an angel a couple times, that tell me he can't live without her.  Saying that any other girl could never make him feel all the emotions she does, and he doesn't want to be with anyone other than her.  To feel the love he feels for this girl, I only dream of finding one day, I mean who doesn't want to find pure, true love?  The instruments in the background only make the song better, they provide peace and serenity.  They give off a lovey dovey kind of feeling you would find in an older movie, when the main guy finally gets the girl he has been after the whole time, realizes she is ...
