Week 12 : Nirvana

Image
Oh my gosh guys, last blog post! This is CRAZY but also so exciting ;))  So for the last week I decided to go with the oh so iconic band Nirvana, and the even more iconic song, Smells Like Teen Spirit.  Now lately I feel like some people only know this songs exists because of TikTok, I mean one time I was playing this song in my dorm and my roommate goes, " Hey this is that song off of TikTok right?", was kind of upset by that statement if I'm being honest.  Anyway lets get down to business, the song starts of kind of soft for a rock band, but 5 seconds later you get all the heavy metal that is thrown into Nirvana's mix and the song just comes alive, you can feel the beat in your bones.  Smells Like Teen Spirit reminds me of so many summer nights driving through the canyon with friends, windows down, speakers blaring and just jumping into the hidden lake, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Week 11 : Tina Turner

Image
This week is one of my favorite week for song choices for many different reasons, there are so many great artists and songs that we get to choose from as well as this is what my family would play all the time growing up in my house.  The song I chose for this week, is What's Love Got To Do With It by the all so famous Tina Turner.  One of my favorite lyrics and one of the most heart felt ones in the song itself I think would have to be the line that states, "Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken? Huh", for me those lyrics really stood out because sometimes you can't ever recover from a broken heart, and in extreme cases you can die from a broken heart.  I'm with my family when I'm writing this blog post and I ask my mom what the song is and who sings it, this had to be the funniest moment today for different reasons.  Within at least 15 seconds of the song my younger sister yells out," THE BEACH BOYS", so we bust out laughing because she is w...

Week 10 : Talking Heads

Image
Just a few more blog posts and then we are done!  How exciting, and crazy fast this semester has gone by lol.  For this weeks song I chose the song Psycho Killer by Talking Heads, this songs gives off a different vibe from the name of the song.  The song is pretty upbeat and catchy but has this almost edgy feeling to it when you listen closely.  Listening to the guitar and the drums alone, you can tell they are playing lower notes, which are commonly used for sad or eerie situations, and then the lyrics are almost describing a horror movie.  When listening to everything together it seems like a happy catchy song with an amazing riff from the guitar, yet its the complete opposite from the title of the song.  One of my favorite parts in the song is the singers solo containing the words "run, run, run, run, ooooh!", for some reason this part just sets up the song for the "psycho killer" ;))

Week 9 : The Eagles

Image
I am so happy that The Eagles is on this week songs choices!  Hotel California is one of my all time favorite songs, anytime I hear it, I just think of my best friend and my dad.  Every time me and my family play Guitar Hero on the WII, this was always one of the main songs we would perform.  There was this one summer that me and my best friend played Guitar Hero almost every single day during summer and during the school year.  We would play this song over and over again, switching between bass and guitar, switching the difficulties just to enjoy the songs, but mainly to pass the song at 100%.  The guitar solo towards the end of the song and you just get the chills running down your spine, you just want to experience the song in person, with a lighter in your hand, waving it around while screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs.  The song is just something that the lyrics and the melody don't always match up, the melody is all happy, and the lyr...

Week 8 : The Rolling Stones

Image
To start of this 'amazing' Monday, we are jamming out to THE ROLLING STONES!  One of the best 'old school' bands that I grew up on as a kid, and lets just say I was very excited when I saw this on the songs of the week list.  Just by the very beginning of the song you are already in such a good mood, and just completely vibing with the characters in the song.  I should probably tell you what song I picked for this week now that I think about it, the song I chose for this week is Honky Tonk Women by The Rolling Stones.  This songs brings back a lot of summer memories for me from my childhood.  The one memory I can place with this song was in the summer when I was 7 or 8, me and cousins were learning how to skateboard in front of my grandparents house on a hot summer day.  We just finished drawing all over the concrete with chalk and finished an otter pop, then you hear the stereo from the backyard blaring this song while me and my cousin crashed into e...

Week 7 : The Beach Boys

Image
Can't believe this is week 7, only a couple more weeks left!!  Anyway this week I chose one of the many amazing songs by the one and only BEACH BOYS!  The first time I ever heard The Beach Boys was on a CD my dad gave me (along with lots of other old bands and artists I absolutely adore) when my parents gave me a CD player for a birthday when I was younger.  The Beach Boys bring back a lot of great memories for me, and the song I chose this week was Fun, Fun, Fun.  Right off the bat you get summer vibes in my opinion, no other song gives off this kind of nostalgic feeling of being under the song all day.  The song talks about how this girl isn't gonna stop having fun with her life no matter what her dad says, she is just living her best life.  The melody and tune is so upbeat and lively, and the background singers add even more serenity to the song itself.  Listening to this song you can picture all of the fun times these people have just writing...

Week 6 Post : Elvis Presley

Image
Elvis Presley is a great musician, don't get me wrong, but I can rarely ever understand what he is saying in any of his songs.  Even if you can't understand someone's lyrics, you can still understand the pure, raw emotion they are presenting.  My song choice for this week was Mystery Train by Elvis Presley, Obviously lol, but you can understand that he brings up a girl every now and then.  The melody in the song reminds me of a country, jazz, pop type of song, can't tell you why but it gives off those vibes.  You never truly know how much the melody or beat of a song can remind you of so many other genres at one time.  The country part of it reminds me of constant love songs, the jazz parts remind me off lovers departing, and then the pop parts remind me of the aftermath and trying to move on with your life.  Elvis Presley is a legend in the music community, whenever someone brings up his name, you know exactly who we are talking about.  That's h...
